Towns 12-16: Spencer, East Brookfield, Brookfield, West Brookfield & North Brookfield

North Brookfield, Massachusetts

With 11 towns under my belt, I ventured out, past my comfort zone, to towns I’d never visited before. Prior to this project, I’m not sure I had ever heard of the Brookfields. This was my first foray into unknown territory, testing out my mapping and planning skills. If I had thought to check the elevation profiles of my planned routes I may have gotten so lost in the planning that I never finished the project. So even though I exhausted myself with the mileage and the hills, I felt accomplished in the effort. Running in January can be tricky, especially running alone somewhere new. I was relieved to finish these towns just before dark and only an hour from home. Closing out the afternoon of running along orchards and farmland in North Brookfield buoyed my spirits and foreshadowed even more beautiful views.
