Hudson, Massachusetts

This was my first town run with a companion. My son rode his bike while I battled the rolling hills on foot. Hills felt unavoidable at this point. I would manage some flat routes in later towns, but most towns were hilly. Or, the routes that appealed to me were hilly.

I both love and hate Long Hill Road. Winding and woody, it’s beautiful and peaceful in every season. But on foot it goes on forever, mysteriously uphill in both directions, and with an acute risk of drivers not expecting a runner along the narrow road.
