Lexington, Massachusetts

I had lived in Massachusetts for more than 40 years, memorized Longfellow’s “Paul Revere’s Ride” and reenacted Revolutionary War highlights for middle school social studies classes, attended an early-morning “shot heard round the world” Patriot’s Day reenactment as a child (very early and very chilly), and even worked for a couple of years in nearby Concord…but I had never been to the Battle Road Trail. I chose my Lexington-Lincoln route specifically because of this. I could park in an approved lot for the trail, linger at the informational signs and monuments, and marvel at how different the trail looked from what I had imagined.
